Refinery Safety – Pernis Refinery Explosion & Fire

A fire, sparked by an explosion at a high-voltage power station at Shell’s Pernis refinery in Rotterdam, the Netherlands resulted in the safe and controlled shutdown of most of its units. Although this was a significant event at the site, there were no injuries reported.  You can read more about this event here.

AIS Software products are all about refinery operations safety. AIS provides the operations managements software (UTL) at the Pernis refinery that lets operators, engineers and managers have a clear view and enhanced control over their specific areas of responsibility.  It was used during this event to provide critical real-time information to the operators managing the unfolding events, as well as recorded their actions in shift handover notes to the following work shifts.
